Naming
Names worth saying out loud.

A name is the first piece of marketing anyone meets, and the hardest to change later. We look for names people can say, spell and remember, then check that you can actually own them.

01 — Why it matters

Why it matters.

A name works every time it's spoken: on the phone, in a referral, in a search box. If people can't spell it or confuse it with another company, word of mouth leaks away.

Availability matters just as much as creativity. A great name with no usable domain, taken social handles or a trademark conflict turns into an expensive problem after you've printed it on everything.

02 — What’s involved

What’s involved.

01

Naming brief

The audience, personality, markets and rules a name must meet, including what it should never sound like.

02

Territory exploration

A wide search across descriptive, evocative, invented and founder-based names, so you see the range before choosing.

03

Availability screening

Domain, social handle and trademark knockout searches on every finalist.

04

Say-it-out-loud testing

Short-listed names tested with real people for spelling, recall and first reactions.

03 — How we research it

How we figure it out.

  1. 1

    Write the brief

We pin down who the name is for, what it must communicate, where you'll operate, and the red lines.

  2. 2

    Explore widely

We generate a long list across naming styles, then check meanings and associations in other languages and in everyday slang.

  3. 3

    Screen for availability

Domain registries, social platforms and the USPTO trademark database, plus a look at who else uses similar names in search results. Formal trademark clearance stays with your attorney.

  4. 4

    Test and sleep on it

We test the short list with people outside the project: can they spell it after hearing it, do they remember it a day later, and how does it feel.

04 — What you get

What you walk away with.

Deliverables

  • A shortlist of five to ten vetted names with reasoning
  • An availability report for each
  • Tagline options for the favorites
  • A recommended pick and why
  • A handoff package for your attorney's trademark review

A good fit when…

  • You're launching a company, product, event or series
  • Your current name is hard to spell or easy to confuse
  • A merger, expansion or pivot means the old name no longer fits
